a p p r o x i m a t i o n s is a self-published artist book that brings together two distinct, yet geographically and conceptually entwined exhibition projects in the West of Ireland, with work and words developed between 2023 - 2026.

'Echo/Locate' was presented at The Linenhall, Castlebar from 15th August - 27th September 2025. One year later, 'The Weight of Air' was presented at Custom House Studios + Gallery, Westport from 13th August - 13th September 2026. Both bodies of work focused on ways of navigating the gap between illusory space and built space, working through site-specific mixed media installation. The publication documents a material and philosophical inquiry moving from negotiating the structural aspects of a room [echolocation], to the invisible medium that fills it [air].

The book was designed by Padraig Cunningham of Pure Designs, and printed and bound on Munken paper. The contents primarily include photographic documentation of the respective exhibitions by Aidan Conway of MARMAR Architects, plus a commissioned essay by writer Aaron C. Rammasch, and short reflective texts by artists Sharon Murphy and Nuala Clarke.
